Meet Dr. Klonsky


 

Ira Klonsky, MD, is a general surgeon and caring physician with substantial experience treating a range of conditions, such as hernias, hemorrhoids, diverticulitis, abdominal disorders, benign tumors, gallbladder and colon cancer, gallstones, and appendicitis.

Since 1983, Dr. Klonsky has been the senior partner providing the highest quality in personalized care at South Shore Surgical in Valley Stream, New York. He played a pivotal role in opening up the state-of-the-art wound care and hyperbaric medicine center at South Shore Surgical.

Dr. Klonsky happily serves the Greater Queens and Long Island area. He specializes in general and laparoscopic surgery, hernia surgery, wound care, and hyperbaric medicine.

Dr. Klonsky received his medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Facultad de Medicina in Mexico in 1977. He completed his first year of training at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, before finishing his residency and surgical training at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn in 1983.

Dr. Klonsky is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the Inter-American College of Physicians and Surgeons, the American Association for Physician Leadership, and the American Professional Wound Care Association.

His fluency in Hebrew, Spanish, Yiddish, and English allows Dr. Klonsky to communicate with a diverse group of patients easily.

As well as bringing new surgical advances and techniques to the area, Dr. Klonsky was the first surgeon to perform minimally invasive laparoscopic gallbladder surgery at Franklin Hospital Long Island Jewish Valley Stream, where he has been the medical director and the vice president of medical affairs since 1986. Since 2005, Dr. Klonsky has also been an active physician at the Wound Treatment Medical Associates of the South Shore.

Dr. Klonsky is active in his local communities and has served Franklin as a member of the Board of Trustees. He is now a member of the Medical Executive Committee, the Community Advisory Board, and many other hospital committees.

Dr. Klonsky has been the physician in charge of the prestigious pre-medical program called the Summer Scientific Program. He was also named the associate director of surgery in 1997 and the chief of general surgery in 1999.
